What’s on your desk? Annica Dawes
Calendars on desks are a pretty ordinary sight (at least they were in the days before Outlook and smart phones), but Annica Dawe’s calendar is anything but ordinary.
For starters, it’s a cube. It’s also a reminder of one of her favorite places, Paris, and a favorite activity. “I love, love, love, to travel,” said Dawe.
The manager for Community and Corporate Relations at the Palm Desert campus, Dawe spreads the news about Brandman and its programs to various business, community and education groups. She’s also a native of the Coachella Valley. “It is a wonderful experience to promote higher education here in my own backyard where I grew up.”
It is her own pursuit of higher education – a semester abroad in Spain – that ties into other desk decorations. Her coffee mug filled with pens and pencils displays the U.S. State Department seal. After graduating from San Diego State University with a degree in international business and then completing her master’s degree in public administration, Dawe began working at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid in the Department of Public and Cultural Affairs.
Among her fond memories of Spain and the embassy is the event she helped plan for the night of the U.S. election in 2008. More than 800 people, many of them Spanish dignitaries, took part in the night’s festivities hosted by Ambassador Eduardo Aguirre.
“I cannot stress enough to our Brandman students that if they have an opportunity to travel overseas, they should definitely take it!”
