Irvine Police Chief visits sociology class
Irvine’s top cop, Chief David Maggard, visited the Irvine campus to speak to Dr. Sheila Steinberg’s SOCU 420 class: Sociology of Deviant Behavior. “The students really appreciated hearing about the police view of deviance and law enforcement’s role in maintaining the peace and fair society,” Dr. Steinberg said. The Chief’s emphasis on culture and importance of having a police force that engages with and reflects the local community was a point well taken, she added. Chief Maggard also discussed with students the career path of law enforcement and how to be successful in the field.
