Calling all veterans: November is Veteran Appreciation Month at Brandman University! #ThankYouVets
Everybody knows that Veteran’s Day is celebrated on November 11th each year, but Brandman University will be giving a special salute to the many students and alumni who are veterans of the U.S. armed forces throughout the entire month of November, as well as those brave students who are currently on active duty.
Serving military and veteran students is a big part of our organizational DNA – in fact, it’s how we got started. Born in 1958 at the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in Orange County, our original purpose was educating soldiers in the post-World War II era as a special service of Chapman University. By establishing an academic program directly on the base, Marines could tap into the new G.I. Bill education benefits while still remaining on active duty. Initially known as the Residence Education Center, the program became widely popular among G.I.’s and began to thrive, eventually taking the name Chapman University College (CUC). Over time, additional CUC campuses were established on other military installations across the west coast, and academic programs were expanded to meet the educational needs of military personnel and their spouses. Over the next four decades, CUC would steadily grow to provide access to higher education for thousands by expanding offerings to non-military, adult students.
Today, Brandman is a separate, regionally accredited school within the Chapman University System, dedicated to serving the needs of all working students, military and civilians alike. Nearly a quarter (23%) of our student body is comprised of veteran and active duty military students, and we are proud to have a number of faculty and staff who are veterans. Brandman is consistently selected as a Military Friendly school.
During the month of November the Brandman Blog will celebrate veteran students and alumni; are you a proud veteran student, faculty, staff member or alumnus? Tell us your story! Send an email to social @brandman.edu.
