Brandman University Launches BA in Early Childhood Education Degree
Brandman expands program offers
IRVINE, Calif. (June 5, 2012) – The Brandman University School of Education today announced the addition of the Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education program, which launches this fall. The ECE program focuses on building the knowledge, skills and dispositions that early childhood educators need to provide high quality, inclusive early care and education for children ages birth to eight in a variety of settings. Students will explore areas such as childhood development and learning; relationships, interactions and guidance; screening, observation, assessment and documentation; and learning environments, meaningful content and curriculum.
“This new program at Brandman is aligned with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Standards for Initial Licensure as well as California State initiatives, such as the Foundations, Frameworks and Early Childhood Educator Competencies,” said Dr. Faith Polk, faculty member in the School of Education who spearheaded the curriculum development for the program. “Our students will be early childhood educators for the 21st Century.”
The ECE program is designed to complement previous early childhood educational training and fieldwork and provide students with the depth of study required for entry into graduate studies in early childhood. Throughout the program, students apply their learning through fieldwork experiences in at least one of the following age groups: birth to three, three to five, and five to eight. Fieldwork must be completed in at least one of the following settings: primary or elementary school, childcare center or home, and Head Start.
Students joining in the Fall I and Spring I terms are eligible for scholarships to reduce tuition. For more information and to apply, visit www.brandman.edu.
