New Board of Directors Member Announces at Brandman
IRVINE, Calif. (Feb. 24, 2011) – Brandman University, a member of the Chapman University System, today announced that Pamela Monaco, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Academic Conference of American Deans (ACAD).
“I am honored to be elected to ACAD’s board. This is an exceptional group of academic deans from a broad spectrum of disciplines and institutions. We share a deep commitment to advancing the ideals of liberal education and supporting academic leaders in their work. I’m particularly excited that technology is a focus for the organization,” said Dr. Monaco.
In her current role, Dr. Monaco has overseen the transition of more than 100 traditional courses to a blended format of online engagement and face-to-face instruction. She also developed Brandman’s innovative Veterans2College Program. Formerly, Dr. Monaco served as Director of University of Massachusetts-Amherst University Without Walls and as
Dean of Communications, Arts and Humanities at University of Maryland University College. She was a Fulbright Scholar to the University of Tartu in Estonia and holds a master’s and Ph.D. in English from Catholic University and a bachelor’s of business administration degree from George Washington University. She continues to teach at Brandman in her disciplines of English and theatre. “Dean Monaco’s appointment to the ACAD board reflects great honor on our university. She brings a unique perspective born from a vast range of scholarly and administrative experience. To the best of my knowledge, she is the only representative from a university that serves non-traditional students,” said Chancellor Gary Brahm.
