November 15, 2017 by Cindy O'Dell

Brandman University will offer a free webinar on “Mental Health in the Workplace” at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 13. It is part of its series of human resources-related webinars. The first looked at marijuana laws and the workplace.

Thierry Kolpin
Associate Professor Thierry Kolpin.

Studies from the National Business Group on Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that as many as 85 percent of employees with mental health conditions are undiagnosed or untreated. Stress and other mental health conditions cost employers up to $100 billion per year in both lost work days and reduced productivity.

Loren O'Connor
Vice Chancellor Loren O'Connor

Thierry Kolpin, Ph.D., an associate professor in the School of Education at Brandman and a leader in the field of school counseling, and Loren O’Connor, Ph.D., vice chancellor for Accessible Education and Counseling Services at the university, will discuss the reasons employees are often afraid to discuss their mental health issues with their co-workers or supervisors and how employers can increase productivity and employee retention by creating a culture of caring.

The webinar is free and open to the public. Register here.
