Brandman University mourns the passing of one of the School of Education’s adjunct professors and doctoral program cohort leaders, Kathy Frazier. Frazier was a former superintendent who served on Brandman’s Advisory Board with a depth of knowledge in regional occupational programs. She taught graduate students in the university’s education administration program since 2010.

Update: A memorial service celebrating Frazier's life is being planned for January.

“Dr. Frazier provided outstanding mentorship to students in two doctoral cohorts. She was a perfect model for them as a transformational leader herself and exemplified caring and compassionate leadership as well. She went above and beyond to serve her students for them to achieve academic and professional success. She will be greatly missed by the Brandman family,” said Christine Zeppos, dean of the School of Education.

Frazier mentored School of Education Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Organizational Leadership cohorts since 2013 at the Riverside and Ontario campuses. Just a couple weeks ago, she finished first-round judging in the Innovation Tournament, which is part of the January immersion for the Ed.D. program, said Marilou Ryder, associate professor for the School of Education.

Ryder and Frazier met in the 1990s, when both were principals at middle schools in the Torrance and Redondo Beach school districts, respectively. Ryder’s son was a student at Frazier’s school, and their paths crossed again when Frazier became an adjunct for Brandman.

“Parents and students loved her. She went above and beyond the call of duty for anyone. Even her cohorts. They just loved her. She never wanted to seek out attention. She was a humble servant leader, who made people feel good about themselves and get them to do the best they can,” Ryder said.

Zeppos, Ryder and the Brandman community extend their sympathies to Frazier’s family, friends, former students and the communities she served.
