What's On Your Desk? Eva Hedger
If you want to know what Eva Hedger values, a quick look inside her office on the third floor of Brandman’s Irvine campus/Central Administration building will tell you all you need to know.
Or as the assistant vice chancellor for online learning and academic administration puts it: “I love horses, “Star Wars” and my kid.” She quickly adds that her 11-year-old daughter comes first.
Nearly every available space is covered with something representing one of those. Pictures of Hedger’s daughter from babyhood to now fill half a wall. Horses in stunning Chinese brushwork, sculptures and whimsical toys share the space, as do photos and a truly impressive Darth Vader from the original “Star Wars.”
Hedger, who rides hunter-jumper style, grew up with horses “in the backyard” in childhood in Texas. She also developed her affection for “Star Wars” as a youngster, saving up her milk money to buy collectible cards in gum packs. “My biggest accomplishment was when I got them all.”
There’s also serious work that goes on in the office. Hedger oversees the faculty and courses for the Online campus and has taken on additional duties working with adjunct faculty following Maria Cesario’s retirement this spring. She’s worked at Brandman since 2011 (she learned about the university from a radio ad) working up from manager of virtual learning to her current position, with a little help from her daughter, horses and “Star Wars.” She’s also a doctoral candidate in the Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership program at Brandman. What’s on your desk?
