Brandman University off to a record-breaking fall term

Students talk about their hopes for the Fall 1 term during an orientation session at the Irvine campus.

New students have six chances to begin classes at Brandman University – if they’re taking classes online or in hybrid form – and unlimited opportunities if enrolling in Brandman MyPath.

But just like other universities, the fall term at Brandman is usually the first term for new students.

This year is no different, just better.

“I am very excited about the record-breaking Fall 1 start,” said Executive Vice Chancellor for Enrollment and Student Affairs Saskia Knight. “Everyone worked together to ensure that our students were successfully supported and prepared to start.”

Students were able to begin accessing their classes online starting Aug. 31. The first day of classes at the more than 25 campuses throughout California and Washington is Sept. 4.

Knight said many people were responsible for the successful start of the term and she appreciated the effort needed to overcome staff shortages at some of the campuses.

“Everyone came together to provide support. Our campus directors, academic advisors, One Stops and other team members worked closely with students to ensure they were in the correct program and courses, and then the One Stop ensured they were financially ready to start,” said Knight. “The central office support teams did a tremendous job supporting Fall 1 starts as well, supporting the new Walmart and other partnerships. The offices of Admission, Financial Aid, Military and Student Services, Student Accounts, the fully online team, Brandman MyPath team and Accessible Education all went beyond.”

Knight also thanked the Marketing and Outreach teams for getting the word out about Brandman and connecting with the potential students required to hit the university’s enrollment goal. “They did this in a down higher education market.”

Equally important was “the tremendous job supporting our prospective students and getting them to the campuses for a strong start” done by the Enrollment Center coaches, said Knight. “Thank you for such a great job helping our new students start down a path to achieve their dreams.”

Those dreams include associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.

Students were welcomed in August by their campus directors at both in-person and virtual orientation sessions. Melissa Reyes, the Irvine campus director, walked a group of new students through the best way to access information, the layout of the campus, how to contact academic advisors, how to get financial aid information by contacting their assigned One Stop specialist, how to get help with writing, and how to access the computer lab.

Elizabeth Garcia, who is beginning work toward a Master of Arts in Education combined with a single subject teaching credential at the Irvine campus, said she chose Brandman because it would allow her to work and go school.

Yesenia Lopez said she chose Brandman, partly on the recommendation of her sister who has already earned an M.A. in Education and partly because the Master of Arts in Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling “had what I was looking for.” That included both location and a program aligned with her goal to become a school counselor.

For students who think they missed the opportunity to enroll for the Fall 1 term, it’s not too late. Late enrollment continues through the first week of classes. Students can also enroll for eight-week terms beginning Oct. 29, Jan. 14, March 11, May 6 or July 1. (Academic Calendar)

Brandman MyPath, a self-paced, flexible-learning, affordable program with business- and technology-oriented majors, allows students to start at any time.
