Nicole Farnum, manager of Community and Corporate Relations at the Menifee campus, is the 2016 Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce Valley Young Professional of the Year.

The recognition came at an “Oscar-like” awards ceremony, the 51st annual Awards Gala, held at the Pechanga Resort and Casino on Feb. 18. Farnum was  praised her for her impact on the valley communities, including “building business relationships, bridging the gap between the younger and older generations and recognizing needs within our community.” In addition to the chamber award, she received proclamations from California Sen. Jeff Stone, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors and the city of Temecula.

In addition to her work connecting Brandman to Temecula area businesses, Farnum serves on the boards of the Temecula Education Foundation and  Michelle’s Place and as leadership chair for the Valley Young Professionals. She is also a member of the Economic Development Coalition and several other civic organizations.

Farnum says both her work at Brandman and her involvement with other activities is “all about creating lasting relationships. I think one of the things we do at the Menifee campus is treat people like people. We make sure our students get the education they’re looking for and are completely student-centric.”

When she started at Brandman two years ago, she says, “I didn’t realize how much I would love the job and my coworkers and everything Brandman stands for.” She counts those coworkers – Miguel Aranda, Menifee site direct and One Stop specialist Amy Myrick – and her husband, Evan Farnum, as her biggest supporters in her quest to balance life and work.

Her involvement with the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce has also paid off for Brandman. Farnum was able to connect the university with the right people at the Pechanga Casino and Resort because of a connection she made with the resort’s chief financial officer through her chamber work. That connect led to a partnership agreement that provides resort employees with new educational opportunities.

By receiving the award on Saturday, Farnum made sure that “over 800 people at the event heard ‘Brandman University’ – how’s that for value added?” wrote Riverside campus Director Kristin Plapis in an email to the Riverside and Menifee staffs.
