Commencement 2017: Southern campuses get their day in the sun
It was a day of contrasts and similarities. Smiling graduates, happy parents and friends, cell phones and real cameras, hugs, balloons and new diploma covers to show off under a blazing sun for the 4:30 p.m. ceremony and a setting one for the 7 p.m. event.
About 700 students made the trek across the stage set up at Chapman University’s Wilson Field to pick up diploma covers handed out by the deans of Brandman’s School of Business and Professional Studies and the School of Education at 4:30 p.m. and the Marybelle and S. Paul Musco School of Nursing and Health Professions and the School of Arts and Sciences at 7 p.m.
Student speakers Amanda Anderson and Kathryn Taylor described some of the challenges they overcame to earn their degrees at the earlier commencement. Maribel Lopez did the same for the evening ceremony.
Earlier in the day, hooding and pinning ceremonies were held at the Anaheim Marriott for Brandman’s newest group students earning their Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.).
