A Message from Chancellor Gary Brahm on Commencement 2020
As you know, Brandman’s leadership team has been monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic very closely, and we have already taken important steps to safeguard your health and well-being.
With this in mind, we have decided to cancel our 2020 Commencement events. This decision follows directives to avoid social gatherings that may enable COVID-19 transmissions. I have asked the university’s leadership team to explore other ways in which our Brandman community can recognize your accomplishments. Your safety, as well as that of your families, friends, and our communities, is and will remain our top priority as we consider such alternatives.
I would like to take this opportunity to express how proud I am of all your achievements at Brandman. The journey for many of our students is not easy. Most of our students are working full-time and taking care of family members while earning their degrees. This includes spending hours on Blackboard, writing papers, submitting homework assignments, participating in discussion board conversations with classmates, and successfully completing your degree requirements. Our curriculum is difficult, our faculty demand intelligent discourse, and our standards are very high. On behalf of the faculty and the staff at Brandman, we are very proud of your accomplishments and you should be too.
We await guidance from public health authorities to determine when our communities may gather again. In the meantime, we hope to provide you and your family members with a virtual opportunity to celebrate, even if we cannot be together in person. The commencement team will send communications to you in the coming weeks regarding our plans.
Stay healthy and stay positive. We will overcome this together!
