Education Expos benefit school districts, job seekers, university

February 27, 2017 by Brandman University

Six Brandman University campuses hosted Education Expos on Saturday. Statewide, the events put representatives from 59 school districts in touch with 363 attendees. About 20 job offers were in the works by the end of the events, with many more applications gathered by school districts.

The university also collected more than 100 initial request forms seeking information about Brandman’s undergraduate and graduate School of Education programs geared toward teachers and administrators and programs for single subject, multiple subject and special education credentials.

The Irvine campus drew the biggest crowd with more than 60 people standing in line when the doors opened at 9 a.m. and more than 150 participants stopping in during the two-hour event.

The Walnut Creek campus attracted the most school districts or schools and the combined Hanford and Visalia campus event held at the Hanford campus netted the most job offers, followed closely by the Ontario campus.

The Fairfield campus attracted the most outside attention with a story in the Fairfield Daily Republic highlighting a successful job offer for 28-year-old Andrew Romero from the Fairfield-Suisun School District.

Nicole Farnum and Miguel Aranda at the Menifee campus welcomed visitors who encouraged them to hold the event every year.

At the Irvine event, districts were particularly interested in adding to their pool of substitute teachers.

Mayra Navarrete from the Cypress School District said last year they hired 10 substitutes following a Brandman education hiring event and many of them have become long-term substitutes who are likely to get full-time jobs.

Katherine Morgan, who is working as a first-grade teacher in Los Angeles but hopes to find an Orange County district closer to where she lives, said she was really encouraged by the conversations she had with district representatives. “Everyone was super welcoming. I think I talked to everyone,” she said, adding she planned to follow up on job postings from the Saddleback Unified School District that should be available online this week.
