Faculty members explain how CBE transcends global boundaries
Brandman University faculty members Dr. Jalin B. Johnson, Dr. Monica Shukla and Dr. Sheila Lakshmi Steinberg introduced competency-based education (CBE) and Brandman’s MyPath CBE program to participants at the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) conference on Global Learning in College – Defining, Developing and Assessing Institutional Roadmaps.
The three faculty members walked participants in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, conference through rubric design activities; marketing, global business and social science competencies; analysis of teaching methods and an exchange of ideas on how to implement CBE programs.
“Our presentation was well-attended and generated some stimulating conversation with participants regarding competency-based education. People are impressed with the scope of progress that Brandman has made in this area,” said Steinberg.
Johnson and Shukla are assistant professors in the School of Business and Professional Studies. Shukla is also an associate dean. Steinberg is a professor of social studies in the School of Arts and Sciences. The title of their session was “Transcending Global Boundaries of Undergraduate Education Pedagogy: A Competency Based Education approach to theory driven learning and assessment.”
