Brandman signKimberly Greene and William Hale, both School of Education faculty members, recently published a paper examining the current state of blended and online learning throughout the K-12 world in the U.S. It can be read on LearnTechLib. The paper was first presented in November at the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE) in Washington D.C. conference that looked at e-learning in corporate, government, healthcare and higher education.

Kimberly Greene wrote an article on teaching methods for CorwinConnect, a publisher of research-based, peer-reviewed works geared toward PreK-12 educators. Her article, “The ABCs of Involved Learning,” offers a teaching model using affective, behavioral and cognitive components to reach students. It includes a lesson plan for teaching a cross-curricular science and social studies unit on how navigation using the north star led to the success of the Underground Railroad before and during the Civil War.

Lynn Larsen, associate dean in the School of Education, brought more than 30 people from all over Southern California to Brandman’s Riverside campus for a training session for California Odyssey of the Mind. A Northern California training session meets at the Walnut Creek campus on Jan. 21.  Larsen is the state director for the program which combines theater and problem solving.

Ron Boren, an adjunct faculty member at the Modesto campus, is being recognized by the Modest Bee at its Bee Amplified education event on Feb. 9. He will discuss both his work using music to teach math and other concepts to elementary school students and his work at Brandman educating future teachers. Boren has also been nominated for Stanislaus County Teacher of the Year.
