Going the extra mile for Travis graduates
Some students, many of them military or veterans who moved to Mississippi, Illinois, Arizona, North Carolina, Nevada and Europe, have a hard time getting back to California for commencement ceremonies, but that didn’t stop the staff at Brandman’s Travis campus from including them.
Sandy Handel, site director and senior academic advisor at Travis, and Elsa Klassen, One Stop specialist, braved 98-degree heat and a 2-mile walk to make sure Travis graduates received their commencement bulletins, diploma covers, alumni hats and a few other Brandman University goodies.
“Thanks for thinking of me. I’m sure the commencement was awesome. Please say hello to the rest of the staff for me,” wrote one of the recipients when Handel contacted him to verify his new address.
