Irvine Ed.D. students seeking bag and roll donations
If you’re going to be at the Irvine campus between now and Oct. 8, bring your extra plastic shopping bags and empty toilet paper rolls with you.
Doctoral students in the Irvine I Gammas group need them for their Innovation Tournament entry, “Fly High and Unify.” They want to turn their everyday object (plastic grocery store and department store bags) into a community-building project that unites youth and law enforcement. They’ll be teaching the Anaheim Police Department and kids from Higher Ground to make and fly kites made from the plastic bags at 2 p.m. Oct. 9 at Lincoln Elementary School, Anaheim California. Kite string will be wrapped around the toilet paper rolls.
Donation receptacles are in the Irvine lobby through Oct. 8. Both bags and rolls should be clean. Team members are Christina Marshall, Diana Cabori, Robert Mancuso and Sepideh Baniani.
