Police chief emphasizes growing role of higher education in law enforcement

December 10, 2015 by Margo Myers

Police Chief Tony Hernandez in Milton, Washington, sees rapid changes in the field of law enforcement, from technology to new laws to changing views in society. Police officers need greater ability for critical thinking and decision-making in the field, and Chief Hernandez recommends college degrees for people interested in a law enforcement career. Not only does a degree teach critical thinking, but it helps applicants stand out from others, showing hiring managers that they have the motivation and determination to complete a degree. Chief Hernandez received his MAOL from Brandman University’s Bangor campus, enabling him to advance his career.
