What's on your desk? Henry Metcalf
Henry Metcalf’s passion for education is hard to miss at his desk in Irvine, California. His third-floor cubical is covered with college banners and keepsakes.
Pennants, a degree holder and other graduation gifts adorn the accessible education specialist’s desk. Metcalf says his décor helps remind him of his experiences as a student and stay focused on ensuring all students have access to education.
Two customized banners from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Chapman University — where Metcalf earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate — decorate his workspace. Metcalf, who recently finished his Ph.D. in education from Chapman University, says earning his doctorate “…was a seven-year odyssey that I am very proud of.”
It's taken only two months for Metcalf to make a difference at Brandman. “Colleagues who walk by my desk often ask where I got my banners as they are quite large and pretty cool looking,” Metcalf said. He went on to explain that the banners were actually a part of a fundraiser he organized at his previous employer, San Clemente High School.
Metcalf says he is excited to share his love for education with Office of Accessible Education & Counseling Services students and Brandman coworkers. “Education has been an integral part of my life and I enjoy displaying memorabilia as reminders of my own academic journey.”
