Accreditation

Regional Accreditation

BU is regionally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WSCUC) Senior College and University Commission. This is the same level of institutional accreditation that most state and well known universities have.

  • Differences: 2 types of institutional accreditation: regional or national
    • Regionally accredited institutions are academically-oriented, typically leading to an associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree.
    • Nationally accredited institutions are typically those that offer vocational, career, or technical programs.
  • Transferability:
    • Regional accreditation may assist you as you move forward in your education. Most schools accept transfer credits from regionally accredited universities.
    • Brandman University does not accept credits from nationally accredited institutions.

Program Accreditation

  • Social Work:
    • The MSW Program is regionally accredited by WASC and is in candidacy for professional accreditation with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The MSW Program anticipates earning initial accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) in spring 2021. CSWE approved the program for candidacy status on March 11, 2019 and initial accreditation is anticipated in 2020/21. Pending CSWE’s awarding of initial accreditation at that time, students who enroll in the MSW Program during or after the 2018/2019 academic year will have earned accredited degrees.
    • Our Bachelor of Arts in Social Work program received CSWE accreditation in 2016.
    • To review more accreditation information, please visit the Directory of Accredited Programs on the CSWE website and locate Brandman University on Page 7. https://www.cswe.org/Accreditation/Directory-of-Accredited-Programs.aspx You can also view the latest decision granted for Brandman’s MSW program here: https://cswe.org/Accreditation/Information/COA-Decisions/COA/February-2019-COA-Decisions
